Mother's Day is Sunday here in the US and looking at my bookshelf I was surprised to see how many of my books either feature a mother as protagonist, or someone who becomes a mother in the story!
Mother Main Characters
Spots the Space Marine - the OG! The point of this story was to write the military SF trope of "humans versus bugs", but from the perspective of a mom rather than a young adult. Magda's momness is a big plot point in multiple and unexpected ways.
An Exile Aboard Ship - Even the title of this series is leading: not a shieldmaiden, but a shieldmatron, Surela exits the Her Instruments series into this one as a pregnant woman alone in an alien world. Like most moms, she handles it.
Live, Love, Level - Amanda is only half of this modern-day novel about a gaming family, but her decision to play an MMO with her son is the foundation of the story. Also, she's pregnant with her second child in the story, so it's like... DOUBLE mom!
Eventual Mothers
Kherishdar's Exception - We get to see Haraa's entire journey from young rebellious woman to settled mother in the fourth book of the Kherishdar series. One of the reasons I liked writing her as a mom is because of how different her personality is. Moms come in many flavors, and so does maternal nurture.
Flight of the Godkin Griffin - Angharad faces the challenges of motherhood early in Flight of the Godkin Griffin, and it changes her forever! Also, how often do you get to see how griffin moms operate?
