The Haley and Nana Series Bundle

I read the first Haley and Nana book last year when I was going through a rough time, and during that period it was the only thing that could pick up my mood at all. The book was short but I was still in a better place by the time I finished it, so I've been strategically waiting for the next time I need a new comfort read to go on with the series. I have no doubt at all that the bundle will prove to be a worthwhile investment.

I knew going in that these were RPG oriented, however I've enjoyed everything else the author has written, so I got the bundle. As with all her stories, I became engaged with the characters and enjoyed the stories a lot.

These novellas do a wonderful job of engaging the question of how someone who is truly religious would handle an apocalypse, as well as having delightful RPG components to our newly-entered magic system. Even if you yourself are not religious, these are really enjoyable reads, but for those of us who are (I do not share Haley and Nana's specific religion, but I do overlap) it also reads as respectful, well-researched, and insightful.

Additionally, these are completely clean and totally appropriate for children as well. I'd say interest-wise, it probably starts around age 11, but YMMV, of course. My oldest child (currently 13 yrs) has read and enjoys these!

This is the kind of direction I like to see a post-apocalyptic world to take, mainly because it doesn't revel in filth or despair, and perhaps importantly observes the fate of those who do. It's also comforting, hopeful, but not simple or easy. Difficult, even. That's what I think some say isn't "cozy" about it, but I disagree. The characters have to work to get there, is all.

I hope the author writes more in this world. Would love to know more about it.
